SAT Scores vs. GPA
How much should I weight SAT Scores versus my GPA?
This goes back to why the SAT is used in the college admissions process. Grade Point Average remains a main predictor of future academic success in college. However, it lacks objectivity because grades can be influenced by a whole host of factors such as life circumstances or lenient teachers. A 4.0 in a low performing school may be easier to attain than a 3.5 in a hyper competitive high school. When thousands of students may have the exact same GPA and similar extracurricular activities, the SAT serves to standardize the admissions process.
Preparing for the SAT shouldn’t be your world, but it is definitely an important aspect of high school life if you want the best chances of getting into the most competitive colleges.
